Straight lengths can be cut (cut top only*) using a small grinder and metal cutting disc (disc available on this site).

*As with all vitreous pipe the bottom end narrows to a lesser diameter to enable insertion into other pieces of pipe (male is always on top). Key reason is that any condensation that trickles down inside pipe cannot escape.

Fireproof webbing is used on the bottom of the pipe (sealing flue joints article)

A great stove

The customer service from Julian and Arran was exceptional from the start and it never seemed too much trouble for them to answer questions. I bought the Firewire wide screen stove AND the Die Guerts wide screen. So far we have only fitted the Firewire and it is brilliant when on full blast. I questioned why lots of ash came out when opening the door and Arran explained that the secret was to break the 'seal' then wait 10 seconds before fully opening it slowly and right enough that is the way forward. They also sent us some free rope and explained that the old way of sealing the joint between the stove and pipe with clay is now totally redundant and I have to say that was amazing advice. The fire clay was very messy and in 100% of cases always ending up cracking and discolurinf so thanks for that.

Vitreous flue pipe

Was pleasantly surprised that coating stayed intact and didn't suffer any localised heat discolouration or bubbling when cut to length with a 115mm 1mm thick stainless cutting disc. Certainly makes me feel that when in use as first section from a log burner stove it will last the course. Most so-called "heat tolerant" coatings tend to breakdown during disc cutting.
