Crafted by hand in Holmfirth, Yorkshire, the Dunsley Avance 500 is a solid, British-made wood burning stove that delivers on both performance and looks. It’s built to meet the latest EcoDesign standards, which became law in 2022, so you can be confident it's clean-burning and future-ready. With a controllable output from 2.5kW to 7.5kW and a nominal 5kW, it’s ideal for everything from small living rooms to more open-plan setups.

Although it’s designed as a dedicated log burner, you’ve got the option of a smokeless fuel kit if you fancy a bit more flexibility. The kit includes a grate, frame, air slider and ash shovel – all you need to burn authorised smokeless fuels if that suits your setup better. It’s a handy add-on if you're looking for an appliance that can do both while still looking the part in your home.

The Avance 500 has a large viewing window that gives you a great view of the flames, and its clean, modern finish means it’ll fit right in whether your style leans rustic or contemporary. Built for efficiency but not short on charm, it’s a brilliant choice if you’re after a reliable, attractive stove that’s made in the UK and built to last.

What these specs mean

External air

External air allows the stove to take combustion air from outside the room via a flexible tube, rather than just taking air from the room. This can be useful in newer, more airtight homes. Suitability depends on the installation and property.

12mm hearth

A 12mm hearth suitable stove can usually sit on a thinner decorative hearth, rather than needing a constructional hearth, subject to the manufacturer’s instructions.

ClearSkies rating

ClearSkies is an independent emissions and efficiency scheme for modern stoves. A higher rating indicates cleaner burning performance compared with older stove designs.

DEFRA approved

DEFRA approval means the stove can be used to burn wood legally in UK smoke control areas, provided it is installed and used correctly with suitable fuel.

Distance to combustibles

This is the minimum safe gap between the stove and combustible materials such as timber, plasterboard, furniture, shelves, beams or a wooden fireplace surround.

Efficiency

Efficiency shows how much of the fuel’s energy is turned into useful heat for the room. Higher efficiency usually means less heat wasted up the chimney.
